Millionaires take calculated risks

亿万富翁承担计算过的风险

The middle class is trapped in the rat race because it doesn’t take risks. The only way out of the rat race is to take risks. The only way out of the rat race is to take risks. No, that is not a typo. I intentionally wrote it twice. In fact, let me write it one more time. The only way out of the rat race is to take risks. If you take risk out of life, you take opportunity out of life.

普通阶层经常鼠目寸光，原因在于不敢承担风险．避免鼠目寸光唯一的方法就是承担风险，避免鼠目寸光的唯一方法就是承担风险．别以为是打印错误，我是专门写两遍的．事实上，让我们再写一遍更好：避免鼠目寸光的唯一方法就是承担风险．如果你把风险排除在生活之外，你也就把生活的机遇排除在外了．

Taking a risk doesn’t mean taking a shot in the dark. Millionaires take CALCULATED risks. What does calculated mean? It means to gain knowledge first and to consider the consequences of failing before taking action.

承担风险并不意味闭着眼睛射击，亿万富翁承担计算过的风险．计算过的意味着什么呢?它意味着首先获取知识去考虑失败的可能结果，然后去行动．

Use Knowledge to Overcome Fear

用知识战胜恐惧

Millionaires are not afraid to take risks. That’s not to say they don’t have fears to deal with. Both millionaires and the middle class have fears. The way you handle fear, however, determines the results you will get in life.

亿万富翁不害怕承担风险，那并不是说他们做事的时候没有恐惧．亿万富翁和普通阶层都会有恐惧，然而，他们处理恐惧的不同方法，结果就造就了他们不同的生活．

Millionaires overcome fear and the middle class submits to it.Millionaires overcome fear with knowledge. Fear is darkness and knowledge is light. Light causes darkness to disappear; knowledge causes fear to disappear.

普通阶层屈服于恐惧，亿万富翁用知识战胜恐惧，恐惧是黑夜，知识就是灯光．灯光让黑夜消逝，知识让恐惧消逝．

Millionaires educate themselves before taking risks, and then they consider the consequences of failing. Millionaires don’t throw their money around and hope for a return.

在承担风险之前，亿万富翁自我教育，同时思考失败的可能结果．亿万富翁不会四处乱扔他们的金钱，他总是希望得到一个利润回报．

Millionaires practice risk management. One of the simplest ways to manage risk I learned from my mentor Nido Qubein. He taught me to ask these three questions:

1.    What’s the best thing that could happen?

2.    What’s the worst thing that could happen?

3.    What’s the most likely thing to happen?

亿万富翁进行风险的管理，从我的人力资源大师尼度　魁本那里，我学到了一个最简单的风险管理方法，那就是下面的三个问题：

１，  这个事情带来最大好处是什么?

２，  这个事情带来的最坏的结果什么?

３，  这个事情最有可能带来的结果是什么?

If you can live with the worst thing that could happen and if the most likely thing to happen will get you closer to your goals, then go for it! If you aren’t able to handle the worst that could happen and if the most likely thing to happen doesn’t get you closer to your goals, then don’t do it. The next time you have an opportunity to take a risk, ask yourself these three questions. They have given me the insight I needed to make wise decisions.  

如果最坏的结果发生你还活着，最有可能的结果发生时接近了你的目的，那么，就去干！如果最坏的结果发生时你无法承受，而最可能发生的结果发生时并不接近你的目的，那么,别干了！每次面对承担风险的机会时，都问自己这三个问题．它们给了我作出聪明决定所需要的洞察力．

I see three primary fears in the middle class that stop people from taking the actions that create success. They are the fear of failure, the fear of rejection, and the fear of loss.

我认为，阻碍普通阶层去采取成功的行动，最原始的恐惧有三个：他们害怕失败，害怕拒绝，害怕失去．

The fear of failure害怕失败

It is not a matter of if you will fail, it is a matter of when. Millionaires understand that failure is part of the path to success. They do not fear failure; they embrace it when it comes and become wiser. The reason the middle class fears failure is because it thinks failure is bad. Millionaires think failure is good. It gives them the opportunity to learn and grow.

问题不是你可能失败，问题在于当你失败的时候怎么办?亿万富翁明白失败是通往成功的途径．他们不害怕失败，他们拥抱失败并且让自己变得更聪明．普通阶层害怕失败，那时因为他们认为失败是坏事；亿万富翁认为失败是好事情，它可以让自己学习和成长．

If you fear failure, you will not take risks. Any time you take a risk there is the possibility of failing. If you learn to see failure as a positive, then you will be able to take more risks. Your perception of and response to failure will determine the level of success you can achieve.

如果你害怕失败，你就不去承担风险．在任何时候，当你承担风险时就可能面临失败．当你学着把失败当作正面的事情，那么，你就有能力承担更多的风险．你对失败的感觉和反应，将决定你能取得成功的程度．

Failure is one of life’s many teachers. Failure is life’s way of correcting us. When millionaires fail, they learn and try again. When middle-class people fail, they stop taking risks. A common phrase for the middle class is: I tried that before and I’m not doing it again. The middle class gives up after failing while millionaires keep going. You must keep going after you fail in order to achieve success.

失败是生活的很多老师之一，失败是生活修正我们的手段．亿万富翁在失败中学习并且从新来过，普通阶层失败了，就停止去承担风险了．普通阶层的常见用语是：＂我之前尝试了，我不能再做一次了”．普通阶层失败后就放弃了，而亿万富翁却坚持继续下去．你必须在失败之后坚持继续以便达到成功．

The Fear of Rejection担心拒绝

The middle class puts too much importance on the acceptance of others. We all want others to accept us. We also want to be successful. Here’s a key to success: you must want to succeed more than you want the acceptance of other people.

普通阶层总是把”别人的接受”看得太重要，我们都想别人接受自己，我们也想成功．可是，成功的关键是：你必须更加要求成功而不是要求别人接受你．

Millionaires desire success more than they desire acceptance. In order to be successful you will have to take risks and, if you fail, some people may reject you. The funny thing is, if you succeed, some people will still reject you!

亿万富翁成功的愿望强过被别人接受的期望，为了成功你必须冒风险，如果你失败的话，一般人会拒绝接受你．有趣的事情是，如果你成功了，这些人们仍然会拒绝接受你．

Someone once said one third of people will like you, one third won’t, and one third doesn’t care either way. Millionaires understand they can’t please everybody. If you are addicted to the approval of people, this will keep you from taking risks. You must not let your need for acceptance keep you from taking risks. Simply understand that some people are going to reject you no matter what you do, and then do what you need to do to succeed.

有人说过，三分之一的人喜欢你，三分之一的人不喜欢你，剩下的三分之一无所谓你．亿万富翁明白：＂我不可能会令所有人高兴＂一旦你偏要去征得全部人的同意,你将不会去承担风险，也就不会享受成功．所以，简单地说，别在乎别人是否接受，怎么可以让你成功你就怎么去做！

The Fear of Loss害怕失去

Millionaires play to win. The middle class plays not to lose. Huge difference! Can you imagine if a football team played defense the entire game? Their chance of winning would be zero. If you fear loss, you will only play defense when it comes to your money and your chance of financial freedom will be zero.

亿万富翁总想＂赢＂，普通阶层总在想＂别失去＂这是天大的区别！你可以想像一支足球队整场比赛都在防守的话,他们获胜的机会就是零！如果你害怕失去，你只能捂紧你的钱袋，你的财务自由的机会就是零！

People who play not to lose are always saying they should have done this or that. The biggest gap in the world is between I should and I did.

担心失去的人们，总是会说他本应该做这做那．在世界上，我本应该和我做过之间有天壤之别．

Millionaires can say, “I did.” The middle class is always saying, “I should.” When you take risks, you may lose some money; accept it and go on. Just as failure is part of success, losing is part of winning.

亿万富翁能说＂我做过＂，普通阶层总是说”我本该做”．当你承担风险的时候,你可能会失去一些金钱，接受它并且继续，因为失败乃成功之母，失去是赢的一部分．

 

Live Like You Were Dying就像你正在死去那样活着

When I speak at live events I will often include a section about living like you were dying. In that section I discuss a survey done among a group of elderly people over the age of ninety. They were asked, “If you had life to live over again, what would you do differently? ”

我在有关生命的演讲中，我常常说，要象你正在死去那样活着．我问一群９０高龄的老人观众，：＂如果让你重来一遍，你将有何不同?”

There were three answers that kept coming up repeatedly. Would you care to guess one of them? One was that they would take more risks! Did you get that? When you are at the end of your life, you will have more regrets over the things you didn’t do than the things you did. Taking risks assures that you won’t have to live with the pain of regret. Don’t get to the end of your life and say, “I wish I had.” Overcome your fears with faith and take some risks.

有三种答案被不断地重复，你乐意去猜猜吗？其中之一是＂我将会冒更多的风险！＂因为，当你老去，快离开人世的时候，你不会遗憾你做了什么，你会遗憾你本该做而没有做的事情．

Let me give you the other two answers. They said they would take more time to reflect on the good moments of their lives and appreciate them, and on the bad times to learn from them. The third most common answer was they would do more things that would live on after they were gone. Now, if you’re going to do something that will live on after you’re gone, you’re going to have to take some risks. People who are remembered took risks.

其二，他们将会花更多的时间，去享受愉快的时刻．

第三个常见的答案是，他们将去做一些自己死后还存在的事情．而只有那些冒险的人会被人们记住．

Remember, knowledge is light and fear is darkness. Shine the light into the darkness and you will have the courage to take action. Millionaires overcome their fears and take action. The middle class submits to its fears and lives with regrets. Be able to say I did instead of I should. Calculate your risks by educating yourself and asking those three questions.

记住，害怕是黑夜，知识是灯光．光明驱散黑暗，给你勇气去行动，去承担风险！但是记住
