敬爱的果东法师，

我们今天得到了尊贵的圣严法师舍报圆寂的消息。在此，我谨代表香巴拉总导师萨姜·米庞仁波切（Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche）在第一时刻里向法鼓山僧俗团体致信，表达我们对您等痛失这位伟大而深受崇敬的长老法师深切哀悼之意。

圣严法师的一生成就惊人。他的影响极为深远，这影响不仅针对追随他的徒众，同时也及于世界各地无数的人们。他个人风范教化的启发，穿透了每个曾有缘亲见其慈颜者的心灵。法鼓山本身，就是一个显示出他毕生致力于佛法、与他对全人类福祉之承诺的鲜活范例。

他整个的生命——他的修行、教学、以及他不间断的精进——是大众之福佑。我们深深感谢这位伟大的修行者，并感谢所有护持圣严法师、与圣严法师共事，为佛法服务、奉献的人们。

Dear Venerable Guo Dong,

Today we learned of the passing of Venerable Master Sheng Yen. I am writing to you immediately on behalf of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche to express to your community our condolences for the loss of this great and much loved teacher.

In this one lifetime, Master Sheng Yen had an astounding impact. He had a deep influence not only on his followers, but also on countless other people around the world. His personal illumination penetrated the heart of everyone he met. Dharma Drum itself is a living example of his devotion to the buddhadharma and his commitment to the welfare of humanity.

His entire life – his practice, teaching, and ceaseless exertion – was a blessing. We are profoundly grateful to this great practitioner, and to all who have supported and worked with him in the service of the buddhadharma.
