A feedback from Timothy Pi, CFA

Dear Lu,
I read a report about MIT Tibet Forum in a local Chinese newspaper.
It is sad to see smart kids like you and other MIT Chinese students become Chinese communist regime's tools to spread false and misleading information.
If you really want to show the facts and truth about Tibet, why not just ask your government to open Tibet to western journalists to report how great the Tibet situation is
Do you know that after Communist regime invaded Tibet 50 years ago, more than 95% of Tibetan temples were destroyed?
If you really want to find out the truth, why not to set up a debate between your so-called expert with Tibetan people in Boston area.
Each year many Tibetans are killed by Chinese border guard while they tried to cross border into India. Three years ago, Belgium mountain climber filmed the whole incident.
In the film, Chinese border guards killed a young kid and a monk like hunting an animal.
Can you ask your so-called expert with the first experience to explain to me why it is necessary to do this?
Wake up. If you like the Chinese communist regime, please leave immediately and go home.
Do not stay in US to enjoy your freedom of speech while praising your brutal government's inhumane acts against others.
Regards,
Timothy Pi, CFAMITTibetForum

Dear the so-called Timothy,
I am very intrigued by your so-called arguements and deeply impressed by the rudimentary logical contradiction you have made in your letter.
By the very definition, the freedom of speach allows me and other people, no matter whether they are American, British or Chinese citizens, to express WHATEVER political views we hold. It does NOT matter whether our views confirm to your so-called liberal, democratic ideology or not. By the very sentence of "If you like the Chinese communist regime, please leave immediately and go home", you are delivering a message that is essentially AUTHORITARIAN - my way or high way! I just feel this is very laughable and thus have to write this response.
Another issue that I'd like to raise is about personal manner. To have an intelligent and meaning dialogue, the two parties should, at least, hold mutual respect to each other. I am not sure the way you were throwing tantrum around could be helpful to anyone in this world! For people who are childish, I guess, dialogue might be a waste of time and education, or more accurately, guided education, could harvest better fruit. From this perspective, I highly recommend you to read the messages and information that have been posted on the forum. It may take a little bit of time for you to digest the content but definitely it's within your intellectual capability.
I'd also like to take the luxuary to answer some of the questions you list below (my apologies for not being able to answer all of them, as I have to finish process a dataset tonight :). 1) fifty years ago, the communist regime recovered China's sovereign claim over Tibet. It's not an invasion. If you do care so much about Tibet, please read some history books. Beijing started to have such sovereign claim over Tibetan region since the Yuan Dynasty. 2) you claimed that since the 1960s, 90% of Temples in the Tibetan regions were destroyed. Do not forget one thing - the percentage for destroyed temples could be much higher in other regions in the nation. Keep in your mind, China, as a nation, with the exception of the Taiwan, HK and Macao regions, suffered dearly during the Cultural Revolution. It is a NATIONAL tragedy. 3) Border-control is part of a state's sovereignty If you read Internaitonal Law, you can find this message easily. For illegal border crossing, each nation defines it differently in terms of severity. In China, we do try to take good care of our borders. By the way, the U.S. also defended its borders very rigorously, to say the least. When one accuses other nations, do not forget to look into his own nation's history. Feeling proud without self-reflection may often lead one to the wonderland of arrogance. Should I assume that you are still outside the gate?
One last sentence, I DO enjoy the freedom of speach in the U.S. a lot. At the same time, I love my home country. Even though there are many flaws in the current Chinese political, economic and social systems, the government is doing great, at least in terms of helping hundreds of millions of people walk out of poverty, and make China once again one of the greatest nations in the world. With great power comes great responsibility. However, that does not mean we have to tolerate people finger-point us in an arrogant, self-rightous, yet ignorant way.
Best regards,ygnaw

Hi Tim, could you please elaborate on the relationship between "truth" and "Tibetan people in Boston"?

It is very interesting to see that I get identical or similar answers or responses whenever I discuss Tibetan issues with people from China.
I have heard every single one response or answer in your message from other Chinese from mainland China.
So we can see the long-term effect of Chinese communist regime's brain wash.
Just because the destruction was a national tragedy, it does not make it acceptable.
If a gangster comes to your village, robbing you, destroying your house, or even rape your family members,
will you say, it is a village-wide tragedy. so it is ok....
The argument "the government is doing great, at least in terms of helping hundreds of millions of people walk out of poverty, " has been
repeated many times by the communist regime.

Hi Timothy,
Opinions root in how much information you have and how you interpret it. This MIT Tibet Forum is aimed to balance the information on Tibet from the Western's perspective. Meanwhile, it provides opportunities and materials to re-think what one thought he/she knew.
I often read the news and opinions generated by Western journalists. I don't believe few of them are tools of Western regimes, because I am not willing to believe they are stupid and blind. I would rather say many of them are professional writers for a living.
The freedom of speech is not enjoyable if you don't truly understand what you are talking about, otherwise you are often subject to embarrassment. I believe the Chinese students studying abroad are in a better position to criticize the governments than anybody who stays in his/her home country and views the outside world through a windows as small as a television screen or a piece of newspaper.

Everything is developing, not still,so is Communist Party in China. Don't simply label someone using words such as ganster. In fact, don't forget how European destroyed Indian's houses, villages and so on and became the master of the America. Is it acceptable to you or you want all European go back home?

if information based on interviews with a few people hold the truth, then opinion hold by one billion people must hold the absolute truth!
Just wonder what's your logic of using one information source that has long been discredited by even American China-hands?ygnaw
