------A brief discussion of the integration of Huizhou culture and art of blue and white porcelain

    Huizhou culture is the physical and spiritual wealth accumulated in the process of long period social practices (Huizhou was once called xin'an county in ancient times).Any culture is some kind of historical phenomenon,so we have to refer to the history of Huizhou county while we are talking about Huizhou culture.It was the four-time migrations of northern powerful and magnificent clans to south in Eastern Han dynasty,Western Jin Dynasty,the end of Tang Dynasty and Northern Song Dynasty which brought the central-China's advanced production techniques and culture to Huizhou county,and which was made to be a famous zone gradually in Huaxia(an ancient name for China ).It also made Huizhou culture incorporate the culture of central-China.Huizhou culture has developed into a local culture by now with vivid features which has profound connotation and has formed an unique genre and style in various levels and fields.Among them,Xin'an School of Painting,Hui school of Seal-carving,Hui school of construction and"three carving"in Huizhou are the outstanding representatives of Huizhou culture.

    Art of blue and white porcelain is also a traditional handicraft culture.It has a long history which derived from Yuan Dynasty.It is an underglaze decoration art that pure blue color was painted directly on the white body,covered with transparent white glaze, and fired in about 1300°C.The beauty of blue and white porcelain reminds people of blue sky and white cloud in the clear spring as well as indigo printing fabric handed down by common folk and shows the people's appetite to the pure and simple colour.Time-honored Huizhou culture and art of blue and white porcelain which is sophisticated but not tacky set each other off beautifully,and the integration of them often makes the integration of deep humanistic deposit and simple beauty of art.

Huizhou county is a "cultural county".The white walls and verdant tiles of the ancient buildings in Huizhou county have their own beauty ,they piles one above the other ,ups and downs and finely divided.I draw the Huizhou culture by relief sculpture into the creation of art of blue and white porcelain by showing the typical buildings of ancient village in different visual angles with different composition forms. The ancient villages in Hui school of buildings with their own style and features were carved on the blue and white porcelain which is elegant with classic simplicity.The Horse-head walls（Fire-proof walls）on top of the gables standing low and high,some overshadow the other,and some show themselves in the small openings between the walls.Just in this kind of still-veiled atmosphere,colors of blue and white become contrastly clear.The profound and extensive culture of Huizhou architectures is embodied in such kind of ambience. 

Different colours are used in the decoration of traditional carved porcelain art，and various coloured glazes or underglaze red are the common colour.In order to innovate in the decorative effect of blue and white porcelain art and achieve harmony and unity of artistic conception of the works,I absorb the cultural soul of "Three Carving" in Huizhou,selecting the representative decoration in Wood Carving ,Brick Carving and Stone Carving,showing the features of ancient buildings in Huizhou on the blue and white porcelain by porcelain carving directly,covering with the blue and white colour,and the exquisite techniques of "Three Carving" recreats on the blue and white porcelain.The finished products which show the specific ancient charm of Chinese culture are full of antique and simple beauty.The porcelain carving enhances the space beauty and rhythm beauty of the blue and white porcelain. 

Elements consisting of the Huizhou arthitectures recreat the verve of the blue and white porcelain.The architecturers try their best efforts to make the interior decorations of Huizhou buildings as beautiful as possible.No beams are painted without liquid gold or decorated without water color painting.Every Dougong(Bucket arch) ,upturned eave,window glazing bar,door leaf,room corner and railing are fine carved and elegantly chased .The vastness of subjects,abandance of contents ,delicacy of chasing in the Huizhou architectures have embodied the local life and customes vividly.I incorporate the pith of Huizhou architectures into blue and white porcelain art with an form of "blue and white"embossment.Thus the formerly plain and common blue and white porcelain become renewally,and it seems to have flesh and bones.

Integtating Huizhou Culture and Art of Blue and White Porcelain by Ink-and-Wash Painting

Ink-and-wash painting is one of Chinese Paintings.Ink,as one of characteristic materials of Chinese Paintings,is the element.The ink could be classified into dark ink,light ink,dry ink,wet ink and so on. By dropping the clear water in,so that different gradation of shade(black,white and grey )could be painted.Its special style called "Ink style"which has become a painting style.The artistry of blue and white porcelain showed by itself's decoration.Looking from the decoration art history of blue and white porcelain，the reason why the Ink-and-Wash Painting appears on the blue and white porcelain art is one of its decoration styles is that the painting skills on blue and white porcelain approaches the drawing techniques in Chinese Painting,which lays the foundation for the stretch of the integration of Chinese Painting and blue and white porcelain.

The author who lives in Huizhou county creates Ink-and-Wash Painting for many years.Before creating the blue and white porcelain,I have done many researches by visiting masters in ceramic art and craft,folk artists and potters.In the process of drawing,I apply the painting skills in Ink-and-Wash Painting to the blue and white porcelain combining with the characteristic of his Chinese Painting major,and I try to make the effect of paintings on blue and white porcelain look the same as paintings on the rice paper.While showing the rhyme of ink on bisque,the beginner would be hardly show brush strokes of Ink-and-Wash Painting well.In addition to the traditional outline skill of blue and white,I blend the blue and white stuff in three ways on the premise of remaining writing movement unchanged.The first way is diluting the blue and white grain with plenty of water,the bright drawing line likes seal character write with thick ink,bright and clear;the second is diluting the ceramic glue with the right amount of water,and writing movement would be flexible and freely flowing,this diluted ceramic glue is translucent with even ink color and fertile gradation;the third is the marvelous using of watered blue and white pigment ，anyone who begins to painted on blue and white porcelain must learn the typical skill of watering blue and white Which often appears on the washing surfaces and figures with special writing movement.The historical blue and white master owned flexible and consummate skills.I use the watered blue and white pigment as ink with the writing movement of Chinese Painting under the attribute of watered blue and white pigment ，and this make the light ink as transparent and moisty on the rice paper.I have enriched my skill of showing Ink-and-Wash Painting on the blue and white porcelain after plenty of trails of brush and ink，which adds the ornamentation and enjoyment for painters to exhibit the geographical custom landscapes of Huizhou--natural scenery with hills and streams, flowers and birds ,and figures on the blue and white porcelain. The traditional beautiful women in Huizhou and daily goods which full of Huizhou culture showed on the blue and white porcelain with the special skill of Ink-and-Wash Painting in many different forms，for example，line drawing and Literati Painting.The changes with rigid-flexible,actual condition,shade and degree show the features of the Ink-and-wash Painting,and the painting styles are full of elegance and popularity，which makes Huizhou local culture and humanistic spirit to be apparently showed in front of people with a new form .  

Nowadays,as the demand of aesthetic appreciation diversity increases day by day,decorative forms of the blue and white porcelain art start with development in an all-around way instead of limiting to a certain kind of traditional way.The Ink-and-Wash Painting makes Chinese traditional painting skills connect with each other by blue and white .The local culture showed on blue and white porcelain is not only the extension of Chinese outstanding traditional culture but also the continuation of the achievement of splendid art.

Integraing Huizhou Culture and Art of Blue and White Porcelain by Modern Constitution

    The innovation of art which plays the role of diversification,promotion and replacement means the new development and new breakthrough of art.Huizhou culture is one of Chinese cultures,the development history of Huizhou county is a part of the development history of China.Showing Huizhou culture on the blue and white porcelain with different angles,levels and contents is not an easy thing.There are many forms of traditional blue and white decoration.

    Because of a deep affection for local Huizhou culture,I try my best to give an expression on the extensiveness of the blue and white porcelain art which has steeped in the Huizhou culture.Under the forms of landscape painting,or calligraphy and seals,or ink and wash painting that depicting people,or abstract symbols,etc,the full contents are incisively and vividly showed out.Based on the rich knowledge and systematization,value,convention ,experience,by emancipating the mind,purchsing the Huizhou connotation ,a new look which is the one I want to express ,and which is also the need of Huizhou culture.

   The decoration art of blue and white has come into being a set of mature process completely after hundreds of years' practice and development. It is indeed a complicated question on how to innovate in the basis of existing achievements.The blue and white porcelain art integrated with local Huizhou culture not only has innovated on painting techniques and painting contents,but also has disseminated the centuries-old history of Huizhou and brilliant ceramics culture .This shows that the blue and white porcelain art is always in changing,merging with excellent culture and innovating continuously,and it has formed a variety of style.

    The Blue and White Porcelain sang by Choujielun in Taiwan shows the traditional blue and white porcelain art with pleasant melody and sensitive lyric and making our thoughts lose in the beautiful artistic conception .The integration of local Huizhou culture and blue and white porcelain has a positive effect.The local Huizhou culture is a Chinese historical heritage which is the source of my creation on blue and white porcelain.I realize that Chinese historical culture and local culture will be my subject matters in creating blue and white porcelain art,such as Old Beijing culture,Jin culture,Tibetan culture,Dunhuang culture,Minnan culture and Taiwan Strait culture and so on.Only in this way of innovation of blue and white porcelain art,is there a further development.The integration of local culture and blue and white art is full of profound cultural connotation and unique originality.
